How did you get started in the solar industry?

I was approached by a recruiter for the Controller position that was open here at RBI Solar.  My experience and skill set were a great fit for this position, as I have a background in public accounting in addition to my prior corporate Controller position at a large, public steel company. But I had never worked in the solar industry before coming to RBI Solar.  As I got to know the company and the industry better, I became increasingly excited about the opportunities in this fast-paced, high-growth field as I’m always looking at new ways to increase my skills and add value to a company.  The icing on the cake was the company culture here at RBI Solar.  I know how important it is to love the people you work with because you often see them more than your own family.  We work with an amazing group of people here at RBI Solar who are all excited to help the company grow and would do anything to help in our team environment!

How long have you been in the solar industry?

7 months.

What do you do at RBI Solar?

Controller–I oversee all of the accounting functions for RBI Solar, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial reporting, SOX controls, etc.

What has been your proudest accomplishment at RBI Solar so far?

My biggest accomplishment thus far has been implementing SOX controls and helping RBI in the transition of going from a private, family-owned company to a public corporation.

What advice would you give to women starting out in the solar industry or looking to get into it?

Just jump in and go for it!  The solar industry is one of the most rapidly growing business areas in the US.  There are great opportunities available in all areas of business, including Finance/Accounting, Legal, Project Management, Sales/Marketing, Office Support, Design and Engineering!
