Fortifiber Corporation’s Fernley, NV facility manufactures and distributes moisture barrier and energy efficient building products. Now the sustainable products manufacturer has added some green energy to its roof.
Developed by Pacific Energy Alternatives, Fortifiber’s 555 kW metal roof solution offsets 40% of the facility’s energy needs with 1,790 Canadian Solar CS6X-310P modules. The RBI Solar VS system was selected as the roof mount because it was the most cost-effective solution for the project.
Their metal roof mount solution is expected to offset 1 million tons of CO2 each year. With the solar they’ve generated, Fortifiber could produce 1,227,755 tubes of their sealant entirely with clean energy. Thanks to this solar PV system, Fortifiber will save an estimated $86,000 each year.
Other key members of the project included Hamilton Solar, responsible for the engineering, Blue Oak Energy, responsible for project management, and Vasko Electric, responsible for the installation and electrical contracting. The system’s energy production can be viewed via Solrenview’s real-time monitor.
