Ronald McDonald House Cincinnati

‘Tis the season for giving, and here at RBI Solar, we’re getting in the holiday spirit.

As long-time supporters of the Greater Cincinnati Ronald McDonald House, RBI Solar raises funds for the foundation every year. Our 2016 donation was one of our largest contributions to date — $1,000 was raised by our team!

Several team members delivered the donation to the Greater Cincinnati Ronald McDonald House this afternoon and toured the facility. In recent years, our local Ronald McDonald House has expanded its service capabilities to families with the addition of short-term stay rooms, an on-site professional chef, and private in-room Skype access. The House acts as a “home away from home” for 78 families every night while their children receive medical care.

The Cincinnati House is one of the largest in the country, with multiple housing wings, a children’s theater, arts & crafts area, a library, laundry facilities, playground equipment, and quiet spaces for reflection. For critically ill children and their families, the Ronald McDonald House provides a space to be together, support each other, and heal.

We’re proud to continue to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities and are excited to increase our involvement even more in the coming year.

How did you get started in the solar industry? What attracted you to it?

I have worked in the power industry in one discipline or another for many years. My previous job was in the coal burning energy field, and during that time I saw a definite change from coal to natural gas to solar. I think stricter government regulations and a desire from Americans to have a cleaner energy source have driven the change. I believe the solar energy field has a lot of longevity and will continue to grow as the technology improves. Read the rest of this entry »

How did you get started in the solar industry? What attracted you to it?

My start in the solar industry has been more of a need on the administrative/purchasing side of the business.  I come from a very different educational background than most here at RBI Solar. I have a degree in Social Work/Social Psychology.  My passion is the safety and well-being of children, with particular attention to those who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty.

I became attracted to the solar industry in November of 2015 after stumbling across a documentary about the innovative money exchange in Kenya using a mobile phone-based banking system called M-PESA. Only 4% of Kenya’s remote areas have access to electricity.  Those without electricity rely heavily on Kerosene lamps causing up to 12,000 deaths per year, with a majority of those deaths being children. A company called M-KOPA Solar invented a way to provide inexpensive power to these areas using M-PESA. After watching this documentary the solar industry instantly changed from a cheap and easy way for me to enhance my landscaping at night to a viable solution to enhance the safety and well-being of children all around the world.  Read the rest of this entry »

How did you get started in the solar industry?

I was approached by a recruiter for the Controller position that was open here at RBI Solar.  My experience and skill set were a great fit for this position, as I have a background in public accounting in addition to my prior corporate Controller position at a large, public steel company. But I had never worked in the solar industry before coming to RBI Solar.  As I got to know the company and the industry better, I became increasingly excited about the opportunities in this fast-paced, high-growth field as I’m always looking at new ways to increase my skills and add value to a company.  The icing on the cake was the company culture here at RBI Solar.  I know how important it is to love the people you work with because you often see them more than your own family.  We work with an amazing group of people here at RBI Solar who are all excited to help the company grow and would do anything to help in our team environment!
