About Sun Angles

Picking a geographic location for the placement of the panels, the date, the time of day, and the timezone will all have a very large effect on the calculated sun angle.

You can pick a new date using the toolbar menu above. You can choose a new location by tapping anywhere on the map.

To help, we default the location the midwest in the United States and set the date to December 21st, which is the winter soltice in the Northern Hemisphere where the sun is at the southernmost point in the sky and the resulting sun angle will be smallest.

A very important caveot to remember is that on leap years the winter soltice is on December 22nd rather than the 21st.

The time is set to Noon, which should be just about the right time give you the smallest incident angle on the winter soltice.
